Veterinarian

Our Doctors are able to practice modern medicine with:

Hospital Attendant

Job Summary:
Conducts a variety of housekeeping functions relevant to the operation of a small animal hospital and provides basic animal care.

Minimum Qualifications:

Knowledge Of: General housekeeping and procedures including basic animal husbandry, organization, and disinfecting.

Ability To:

  • Leash-walk all types of dogs
  • Clean various messes associated with animals
  • Lift a 40 lb dog into a cage
  • Clean a litter pan and food bowls
  • Launder towels and blankets
  • Operate a vacuum and mop
  • Restock medical supplies
  • Act professionally in the presence of clients
  • Keep simple records
  • Understand and carry out oral and written directions
  • Maintain a neat professional appearance
  • Maintain a harmonious and cooperative relationship with coworkers

Education: Equivalent to completion of 10th grade

Experience: Some previous exposure to pets and an affinity to animals.

Specific Duties:

  • Walk dogs, clean litter pans, and clean runs and cages
  • Provide food, water, litter, and clean towels to patients as needed
  • Bathe and brush animals
  • Launder towels and blankets
  • Give status of patients to the Technician on duty
  • Maintain the appearance of the hospital
  • Organize and stock hospital supplies
  • Assist other staff as directed

Veterinary Assistant

Job Summary:

Directly assists the Veterinarians and Technicians on duty.

Minimum Qualifications:

Knowledge Of:
Basic animal husbandry, animal restraint techniques, and appropriate customer service.

Ability To:

  • Perform all duties listed under “Receptionist” and “Hospital Attendant”
  • Restrain different types of pets for various procedures

Education: Equivalent to completion of 12th grade

Experience: At least one year experience working in an animal hospital as a receptionist and/or hospital attendant. Recent experience at a veterinary hospital is preferred.

Specific Duties:

  • Assist Hospital Attendants and Receptionists with their duties as needed
  • Accompany clients into exam room, get a TPR, and record medical history
  • Assist Veterinary Technicians with appointments by educating clients, drawing up vaccines, trimming patient’s nails, checking for fleas, etc
  • Fill prescriptions in accordance with hospital policies and procedures
  • Educate clients about basic care of pets and deliver to-go-home instructions
  • Assist Veterinary Technicians and Vets with various treatments as directed
  • Assist Vets and Veterinary Technicians with collection of blood, urine, skin, and fecal samples and operation of the in-house laboratory (microscope, centrifuge, Vet-Lyte and Vet-test machines, refractometer, blood glucose monitor, etc)
  • Assist Vets and Veterinary Technicians with radiology procedures (technique, safety, positioning of patient, operating the X-ray processor, etc)
  • Assist Vets and Veterinary Technicians with surgical procedures (hold patients for placement of IV catheters and fluids, induction, and intubatation; position patient on surgery table, understand appropriate sterile techniques, provide nursing care post operatively, clean and wrap surgical instruments and supplies, and operate the autoclave)
  • Other related duties as assigned
Veterinary Technician

Job Summary:
Directly assists the Veterinarians on duty with medical and surgical procedures.

Minimum Qualifications:

Knowledge Of:
All veterinary medical and surgical procedures and products.

Ability To:

  • Perform all duties listed under “Veterinary Assistant”
  • Collect blood, urine, and fecal samples and perform appropriate laboratory procedures
  • Perform all procedures associated with radiology
  • Place an IV catheter and connect and monitor fluids
  • Monitor patient’s vitals while under anesthesia
  • Medicate patients and provide nursing care
  • Perform dental procedures on sedated patients
  • Provide excellent customer service while educating clients

Education: Completion of 2 year accredited Veterinary Technician Program and Virginia State License.

Experience: At least two years recent experience at a veterinary hospital is preferred.

Specific Duties:

  • Assist Receptionists with their duties as needed
  • Accompany clients into exam room, get a TPR, and record medical history
  • Assist Veterinarian with appointments by educating clients, drawing up vaccines, trimming patient’s nails, drawing blood for various lab tests, checking for fleas, etc
  • Fill prescriptions in accordance with hospital policies and procedures
  • Educate clients about basic care of pets and deliver to-go-home instructions
  • Assist Vets with various treatments as directed
  • Collect blood, urine, skin, and fecal samples and operate the in-house laboratory (microscope, centrifuge, Vet-Lyte and Vet-test machines, refractometer, blood glucose monitor, etc)
  • Know all aspects of radiology procedures (proper technique, safety, positioning of patient, how to operate the X-ray processor, etc)
  • Assist Vets with surgical procedures (place IV catheters and fluids, administer proper medications, intubate, deliver and monitor gas anesthesia, position patient on surgery table, understand appropriate sterile techniques, provide nursing care post operatively, clean and wrap surgical instruments and supplies, and operate the autoclave) Other related duties as assigned
Veterinary Practice Manager

Job Summary:
Manages daily hospital operations and personnel, and monitors financial growth.

Minimum Qualifications:

Knowledge Of:
All veterinary medical and surgical procedures and products, human resources, inventory control, employee scheduling, and bookkeeping.

Ability To:

  • Perform all duties listed under “Veterinary Assistant”
  • Effectively convey the Owner’s views and policies to the clients, sales reps, and hospital personnel
  • Use Quickbooks financial software
  • Manage inventory, organize invoices, prepare bills, and receivables
  • Effectively market the practice
  • Settle client and employee grievances
  • Hire and train support staff
  • Maintain a positive attitude and feel comfortable in a leadership role
  • Deal well with confrontation and feedback

Education: Bachelors Degree in related field.

Experience: At least 4 years at a veterinary hospital in a similar role is preferred.

Specific Duties:

  • Assist all staff with their duties as needed
  • Facilitate the hiring, training, and individual professional growth of support staff
  • Maintain the hospital safety guidelines within OSHAs requirements
  • Handle employee grievances
  • Prepare employee work schedules and manage payroll within a given budget
  • Track employee hours, call in payroll information, and deliver paychecks
  • Maintain inventory (Deal with Sales Reps, order supplies, track inventory, and inform Vets of new products or specials)
  • Track invoices and prepare hospital bills for Owner to pay
  • Develop and maintain a marketing strategy
  • Manage client account deliverables and receivables
  • Perform bookkeeping duties (enter checks, electronic transfers, and deposits in Quickbooks and reconcile bank statements)
  • Prepare financial statements for Owners and/or accountant as needed
  • Put out fires (coordinate the appropriate measures to take when equipment or the facility need repairs or improvements)
  • Other related duties as assigned
Veterinary Receptionist

Job Summary:
Conducts a variety of clerical functions relevant to the operation of a small animal hospital.

Minimum Qualifications:

Knowledge Of:
General office practices and procedures including filing systems; receptionist and telephone techniques.

Ability To:

  • Perform clerical work with speed and accuracy
  • Use a multiple line telephone
  • Greet clients graciously and recognize the responsibilities involved in responding to client questions and needs
  • Keep medical records
  • Understand and carry out oral and written directions
  • Proficiently handle all forms of monies
  • Maintain a neat professional appearance
  • Maintain a harmonious and cooperative relationship with coworkers

Experience: At least two years recent experience in general office work with increasing responsibilities and direct customer service. Recent experience at a veterinary hospital or working with animals preferred.

Specific Duties:

  • Receive incoming phone calls and schedules appointments
  • Receive clients as they arrive and establish the purpose of each visit
  • Update the existing medical file or collect sufficient information to prepare a new file
  • Enter charges for each patient visit into the invoicing system (AVIMARK)
  • Receive payments for services rendered
  • Answer questions regarding the status of hospitalized animals as directed by the attending D.V.M
  • Prepare vaccine reminder, welcome, and sympathy cards
  • Maintain the appearance of the reception area
  • File medical reports into the appropriate medical records
  • Refill prescriptions in accordance with hospital policies and procedures
  • Educate clients about basic care of pets and deliver to-go-home instructions
  • Prepare the daily posting reports; balance cash, checks, and credit card payments daily; and verify daily deposit
  • Occasionally type letters
